Activities

  loaf-picture‘The Giant Jam Sandwich’ storytelling at the Food Shed

The wonderful Jo Oerton will whet our appetites with readings of classic illustrated story by Brightonian artist John Vernon Lord. No booking required but limited capacity. Suitable for all. Times – 12.30, 1.30 and 3pm. Location – The Food Shed shop (opposite Bread Fayre site)

Stalls

The wonderful Lewes Bread Club will be selling their delicious ‘Real’ bread so come on down to buy a loaf or three! Also visit Selcher who will be selling their German bakery wares.

Baking Heritage

 A growing collection of memories, photos and recipes from across Sussex, celebrating local baking With kind permission of Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton & Hove (1)traditions. The charity Freedom from Torture’s baking resources and recipes will also be available here to view. Come and contribute to our work in progress!

Contemporary Connections presents…

You are cordially invited to take a place at this musical dining table……Sounding Food and Music explores the connections between food, diet, gender and music/sound. Contribute your own story of food and music. Suitable for all ages throughout the event.

Suitable for beginners and enthusiasts. Adults only (16yrs+).

1.00pm – 2.00pm A Delicious Daily Brown
2.30pm – 3.30pm The easy 10 minute Ciabatta

Kids pizza making with The Dough Brothers

Suitable for 5+. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Slices or full size pizzas also available to buy.  No need to reserve – just come down anytime between 11.00am – 12.30pm Location: London Rd entrance to the Open Market

Vege Rolls with The Baking Society

Family workshop making tasty and healthy vege rolls with Open Market’s resident baking shop. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Suitable for 5+ 2.30pm – 3.00pm Location: Baking Society opposite the Bread Fayre site in the Open Market

REMEMBERING THE FIRST WORLD WAR IN EAST SUSSEX AND BRIGHTON – Gateways to the First World War

The Gateways team are supporting a number of centenary events taking place in East Sussex and Brighton over the next few weeks.
Bexhill Museum’s First World War Question Time
(organised with Gateways to the First World War)
Thursday 19 March, 12.30pm-3pm

A First World War Q&A session with a panel of experts including Dr Lucy Noakes (University of Brighton), Claire Eden (Bexhill Museum), Dr Chris Kempshall (First World War Project Officer, ESCC) and Geoff Bridger (Military Historian).

Home Fires: A Haunting story of love and loss during the Great War
Wednesday 18 – Saturday 21 March

A large scale theatrical experience at Newhaven Fort with music, dance, sound installations, projections, professional performance and mass community participation.

Fabrica event soon!

Thursday 14 June, 11-4pm

A free drop in event at Fabrica, celebrating the them of laughter. An exploration of the joys that bind, shared laughter and experience through generations which work across the age divide. Creative workshops, exhibition, talks and free cafe. Aimed at the whole community, especially older people, visitors are invited to encounter art in a relaxed and exciting way.

Film screening The Artist

Thursday 14 June, 6-8.30pm

A cosy evening showing of The Artist with cushions, wine, nibbles and cocoa – all for £1.

A homage to the silent era of movie, The Artist is a black and white (mostly) silent film. Jean Dujardin stars as George Valentin a world famous silent movie star, who’s life takes a dramatic turn with the onset of talking pictures. Co-starring Bérénice Bejo as Peppy Miller a young talented dancer.
